Understand the Build Before You Cut
Use the measured technical drawings and labelled part views to understand the layout, heights and component relationships before you start working with your materials.
Multiple views: front and side elevations, a top view and a cross section.
Labelled components: connect the part letters in the drawings to the cut list and assembly steps.
Dual-unit measurements: inches first, with centimetre equivalents; standard lumber includes actual millimetre dimensions.
Final project specifications: check the stated footprint, height and capacity in your selected PDF.
Keep the plan beside you as the project comes together. Numbered instructions refer to the parts and drawings, helping you move through the assembly in a defined order.
A numbered build sequence: work through the stages in the order described in the plan.
Fastener details: look up the specified fastener type, positions and spacing for each operation.

Questions, answered
Before You Start Building
What is included, how to use the PDFs and how to choose your project.
I’m new to woodworking. Can I use these plans?
The collection includes beginner, intermediate and advanced projects. Start with a design marked beginner, read the complete PDF and check its tools, materials and handling requirements before beginning. Larger, mobile and specialty builds can require more experience, help or equipment.
Is this a physical book or a digital product?
This is a digital collection of PDF building plans. The book and printed-page images are presentation mockups. No physical book, finished coop, tools, lumber or hardware are shipped.
What exactly is included in the 45 plans?
You receive 45 individual project PDFs, including a backyard duck house and a three-tier quail hutch. Each plan includes specifications, drawings, cut lists, hardware schedules, assembly instructions and finishing and care notes.
Can I read the PDFs on a device or print them?
Yes. Use a compatible PDF reader on your phone, tablet or computer, or print the pages you need at home or through a print shop. Select landscape orientation and fit the page to your paper size where necessary. Follow the written dimensions; the drawings are not full-size cutting templates.
How do I choose the right coop for my flock?
Check the project’s stated capacity, final footprint, overall height, skill level and climate focus. Consider the available yard space and how you will provide outdoor access. Some designs include a run; others need a separate suitable outdoor area. The chicken projects cover stated flock sizes from 2 to 25 hens, depending on the design.
Are the dimensions suitable outside the US?
The plans list inches with centimetre equivalents. Where standard lumber is specified, nominal US sizes are accompanied by actual millimetre dimensions. Check the actual section sizes available locally; substituting stock can change joints, clearances and cut lengths.
Do I need to buy tools and materials separately?
Yes. The purchase is for the plans only. Each project lists the materials, hardware and tools it calls for. Review the full plan and check local prices before buying. Any budget or build-time figures are estimates for the stated design, not a fixed quote or a guaranteed completion time.
Does every coop include a run?
No. The collection includes house-only designs and designs with integrated runs. Check the individual project’s drawings and specifications to see what is included and plan any additional outdoor space your birds will need.
What about weather, predators and local requirements?
Each plan includes details for its stated climate focus, ventilation, weatherproofing and predator protection. Match the project to your site and check local rules for setbacks, flock limits and construction. The PDFs are building guides, not site-specific stamped engineering plans; local wind, snow, soil and foundation conditions may require professional assessment.
